Mission at a glance
Type 176 HLV Regine was tasked with transporting nine yachts from multiple Mediterranean ports to South-East Asia. The scope combined precision heavy lift with the special care required for floating craft.
Specialist lifting gear, ready to sail
Regine arrived pre-equipped with dedicated yacht lifting gear, allowing safe, efficient out-of-water lifts and controlled splash-ins. Soft slings, spreader beams and tailored cradles protected sensitive hulls and fittings throughout handling.
Smart stowage, stability and lashings
Each yacht received a vessel-specific lift plan and cradle arrangement. Stability, motions and lashing were engineered to keep loads secure on deck, with sea-fastenings designed to minimise point loads and distribute forces across the structure.
Handling the 775-tonne flagship
The heaviest unit measured 56 × 10.6 m and weighed 775 t. Tandem-crane operations, close coordination between bridge and deck, and tight rigging control ensured a smooth lift, set-down and final positioning within the stow plan.
Lift control: calm signals, tight tolerances
Operations followed strict QHSE procedures: toolbox talks, weather-window selection, clear signalling and stop-work authority. Experienced crews managed heel/trim during pick and place, maintaining safe distances and steady hook loads.
Result: nine yachts, one flawless delivery
All nine yachts sailed on schedule and arrived safely in South-East Asia – undamaged, on time and ready for hand-over. The project demonstrates SAL’s proven capability in floating cargo lifting and long-haul, on-deck yacht transport.
